Participants of the 4th scientific and educational Arctic expedition of Rosatom «Icebreaker of Knowledge 2023» planted the flag of the World Youth Festival at the North Pole. On August 15, 87 talented schoolchildren from all over the country set off on the Rosatomflot's nuclear icebreaker - 50 Years of Victory – from Murmansk to the top point of our planet.

Before the start of the expedition, Head of Rosmolodezh, Ksenia Razuvaeva, handed over the flag of the WYF 2024 to two schoolchildren - Vladimir and Adelina Ezhov - and said a few words of encouragement.

«The participants of the expedition «Icebreaker of Knowledge» have a responsible mission before them - to deliver and install the flag of the World Youth Festival at the North Pole, right to the place of the Earth's axis around which our planet revolves. And there is a special symbolism in it. Very soon, the energy of the most active youth of many countries will revolve around the World Youth Festival, which will be held in Sirius from 1 to 7 March 2024. And today, you become a part of the WYF 2024. In your hands is the real value banner of the upcoming Festival. Installing it at the North Pole, you will declare to the whole world that the basis of progressive world order lies in responsibility, unity, kindness, mercy, respect and justice!» shared Head of Rosmolodezh, Ksenia Razuvaeva, during the presentation of the WYF flag to the kids.

The mascot of the World Youth Festival also made a trip to the extreme point of the Earth: Cheburashka became a passenger of the nuclear icebreaker - 50 Years of Victory - and celebrated his birthday at the North Pole on August 20.

On August 24, a ceremony marking the end of the expedition was held in the port of Murmansk. The results of the scientific and educational Arctic cruise were summarized by Alexey Likhachev, Head of Rosatom State Corporation, Vyacheslav Ruksha, Director for the Northern Sea Route Directorate, Leonid Irlitsa, General Director of Atomflot, and Dmitry Lobusov, Captain of the icebreaker 50 Years of Victory.

«For the fourth time, Rosatom is organizing the «Icebreaker of Knowledge» expedition. Since 2019, about 300 children were on an exciting and informative journey to the North Pole. They are the future intellectual elite of our country. Since the time of Igor Vasilyevich Kurchatov, science has been the driving force behind the development of the nuclear industry. That is why Rosatom pays special attention to attracting young scientists to its ranks and popularizing scientific knowledge among schoolchildren and students. I am sure that the trip on the nuclear icebreaker, organized by the Atomflot team at the highest level, will remain in the children's memory forever, and they will enthusiastically tell their friends about the unique technologies that make it possible to conquer the Arctic expanses,» said Head of Rosatom State Corporation, Alexey Likhachev.

The participants of the scientific and educational expedition «Icebreaker of Knowledge 2023» were 87 talented schoolchildren from all over the country - winners of various intellectual competitions and Olympiads. For 10 days of the expedition they traveled along the route Murmansk - North Pole - Franz Josef Land - Murmansk. The participants had time to get acquainted with peaceful nuclear technologies, celebrate the 150th anniversary of the discovery of Franz Josef Land and the 90th anniversary of the Northern Sea Route. The voyage mentors also helped the young explorers form a vision of their future: future nuclear engineers, scientists, inventors - or even future nuclear icebreaker crew members - returned from the top of the world.

«Dear participants of the World Youth Festival! You have come to distant Russia, met each other, and, for sure, you will take home not only memories, but also knowledge, experience, and, most importantly, friends. The Arctic expedition gave us all this, and now we are full of energy and desire to change the world. Let's create the world together!» addressed the schoolchildren to the participants of the WYF 2024.
